Autumn is here...
I don't know about you, but I love autumn! As each new season arrives I declare it my favourite, but honestly, as soon as I see those tiny golden flashes popping up in the leaves of the trees, my whole body starts to breathe a huge sigh of relief. Shorter days are on their way, and its time to slow down, nest and be cosy. I truly do love autumn.
As a knitter, the colder months are where I naturally want to reach for my knitting needles and whip up a chunky oversized jumper or a pair of snuggly socks ready for when I hit hibernation mode in winter. Through Yorkshire Bess Creates, I hope to share a little of my seasonal joy with the world and through my craft, I hope to create handmade timeless pieces that you will love and enjoy, year after year.
Starting a small business is no mean feat. It takes time, courage and perseverance. Hours have already gone into the design process; sourcing materials, writing patterns, creating prototypes. I'm not crying a sob story, because I'm passionate about what I do, but what you see on my website today is the result of months of hard work and preparation. It may not yet be perfect, but its my creation and I'm proud of it.
Autumn provides the perfect inspiration for me. Walking through woodland, as I often do, conjures the imagination. The golden yellow and rusty orange hues of falling leaves create a warming colour palette, guaranteed to bring a cosy feel to any handmade project. Cold, crisp mornings bring a chill to the air, inspiring the snuggly garments and accessories that I make. This is where Yorkshire Bess Creates begins.
My opening range centres on Cosy Comforts and Home Accessories. Cosy Comforts include a chunky ribbed beanie hat and cable knit hot water bottle cover designed to provide warmth and comfort as the days become chillier. The merino wool ribbed beanie hat has a classic unisex design that will never go out of style, a pom-pom can be added for a little extra flair. The cosy cable knit hot water bottle cover features a chunky braided cable pattern, making it beautiful as well as functional.

Walking round high street stores over the years, I became frustrated at the sheer volume of mass produced seasonal decorations on the shelves. Usually created cheaply and imported, many of these products are made with zero consideration for the environment, often ending up in landfill when their short seasonal life is over. Don't get me wrong, they do have a place and bring affordable happiness to many people, but we often fill our shopping baskets without really thinking about what we're buying.
Yorkshire Bess Creates centres its ethos on individual, handmade, quality products. My seasonal decorations and knits use high quality merino wool, a natural sustainable fibre, which is kinder to the environment (I know, every material has its issues, even wool, but that's a whole other discussion). Unlike most high street imports and fast fashion, my products are designed to last when properly cared for. Although perhaps priced higher than high street alternatives, every item I create is unique, handmade with care, and produced in Yorkshire.
